Variant compare

Compare regular editions, first editions and re-releases side by side.

The variant compare tool puts two Tomica castings side by side: scale, first release date, current status, predecessor and known variants are laid out in one table, with the rows where the models differ highlighted so you can spot the changes at a glance.

A useful trick: compare the same number from different years. Regular Tomica numbers are reassigned every two to three years, so putting the 1980s and 2020s versions of a number side by side shows exactly how Takara Tomy has revised the casting over time — new tooling, added opening parts or even a scale change.

To see every vehicle that has ever carried a given number, open its number page.

Pick at least two models above. Only fields we actually have a source for are shown — where a value is unknown it says so rather than guessing.
About first editions. Japanese Tomica are usually sold in two runs: the regular version and the 初回特別仕様 (Special First Edition), which normally differs only in colour or finish. We list a first edition only when we have a source for it, so “Regular edition” alone on a model page means we have not verified a first edition yet — not that one does not exist.
