Where to buy Tomica

Tomica is designed for the Japanese domestic market, so where you live determines both the price and the selection. This page covers what realistically works in each region.

Japan

Japan is where Tomica is cheapest and most complete. Standard models are 594 yen including tax. You will find them in toy shops, department store toy floors, large electronics retailers, supermarket toy aisles and dedicated hobby shops.

For collector lines — Tomica Premium, Limited Vintage, Reborn — hobby shops and the official Takara Tomy shopping site are the reliable sources. New releases typically go on sale on the third Saturday of the month.

If you do not live in Japan, Japanese online retailers that ship internationally plus a forwarding service usually beat local prices once you buy more than a handful of cars.

Taiwan and Hong Kong

Tomica is widely sold in Taiwan as 多美小汽車 and in Hong Kong as 多美. Local toy chains, department stores and online marketplaces carry the regular line, with prices above Japanese retail but without international shipping.

Selection is usually narrower than in Japan and skews towards the vehicles popular with children. For Premium and Limited Vintage, specialist importers are the usual route.

Southeast Asia

In Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, Tomica is mostly sold through online marketplaces and imported by specialist toy sellers. Availability is uneven and prices vary widely between sellers.

Check whether the seller is shipping genuine Takara Tomy product — the region has a lot of unbranded die-cast that looks similar in photos.

North America and Europe

There is no official Takara Tomy retail presence for Tomica in most of North America or Europe. You are buying imports, which means the price is Japanese retail plus shipping, import duty and a retailer margin.

Expect to pay roughly two to four times the Japanese price for a current standard model, and more for anything out of production. Buying in bulk from Japan is almost always cheaper per car.

Buying second-hand

Marketplaces are the main route for older models. Check photos carefully for paint chips and missing parts, confirm whether the box is included, and be sceptical of listings described only as "Tomica car" without a number — the number and the car name together are what identify a model.
